Just thinking about how life shrinks in a long illness. Corners are cut. Hopes are amputed. Accomodations are made. Mechanisms acquired. Grapes go sour but you can't tell if you hold your nose and close your eyes. Don't look.
When I was with my parents, I thought a lot about how as we age -- but also as we develop serious illness-- we lose our privacy. So many things that we normally do behind closed doors alone, become public, witnessed by health care workers, family and other care-takers.

That is so true. My dad doesn't have any privacy anymore.
